The proposed annexation area includes Picnic Point, Lake Serene, and areas to the east adjacent to Mukilteo Speedway.
The previous 2010 annexation proposal by the city included Fairmount, the area southeast of Paine Field. In 2010, Mukilteo held an advisory vote of existing residents (which did not include residents in the annexation area) and 66% voted against annexation, partially due to opposition over annexing undesirable businesses and crime issues along Highway 99. This annexation proposal minimizes the amount of land along Highway 99 by only including the areas adjacent to Lake Serene.
